Minerals are the building blocks of rocks! They come in many different colors and some have special properties for identification! Students will be able to test for luster, streak and hardness to identify a mineral.

In the topic about measuring Earth, students will be able to use the coordinate system of latitude and longitude to find various locations around a world map. Taking the new coordinate system a step further, the students will determine the correct coordinates for different New York State cities and mountains using minutes and seconds. This topic introduces the different symbols on a map, how to use them and leads into the next half of our unit.
Measuring Earth topic is all about location, location, location! Students will be able to use the coordinate system of latitude and longitude to find out specific locations around the world. Additionally, on a smaller scale, students will be learning all about topographic maps. Students will learn features about a map and are introduced to a new formula, Gradient.
Week 1-
Introduction to Earth Science require students to compute calculations, determine relationships within earths systems and graphing. Student this topic will be learning 2 out of the 4 formulas that potentially could be on the regents exam; Density and Rate of Change. Below you will find the note packets, labs and more.. Welcome to Earth Science! This year we will be learning about 10 major topics about Earth; Introduction, Measuring Earth, Rocks & Minerals, Weathering-Erosion-Deposition, Plate Tectonics, Geologic History, Energy and the Water Cycle, Weather, Climate & Seasons and Astronomy. I will use this blog to keep you informed on what is going on in the classroom, to print out necessary materials and to create a fun space for students to access.
